Founding Partner of the Firm. María Luz is a lawyer specialized in corporate and intellectual property law who has more than 25 years of experience both as in-house lawyer as well as external lawyer as part of renowned law firms, providing highly-specialized advice to national and international companies, in various sectors of the economy.
Education
Lawyer from Universidad Católica Santa Maria de Arequipa, Master’s Degree on International Economic Law from the University of Houston, United States of America, with a scholarship from the Fulbright Commission (1992).
She attended the American Legal System Introduction Course at the University of Pennsylvania, United States of America (1991) as well as the Management for Lawyers Course at University of Yale, New Haven, United States of America (2015).
Languages: English, French, Portuguese and Italian.
Experience
María Luz has worked as in-house counsel and external legal adviser in various corporate and intellectual property matters, with extensive local and international experience. She has worked as a consultant for the Hispanic Division of the Legal Library of the Congress of the United States of America at Washington D.C (2002) and held the position of Consultant of the Democratic Constituent Congress in the Modernization Project of the Peruvian Congress, financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) (1993).
She acted as in-house counsel and external lawyer of various multinational and local corporates in the banking and finance, automotive and home appliances business, construction and international trade sectors.
Additionally, she was a senior associate at Rossello Abogados, which included a secondment at one of the most important clients on the firm, a company leader in the beverage sector. She was a partner at Berninzon, Loret de Mola, Benavides Abogados and at Berninzon, Bernavides, Vargas y Fernández Abogados.
María Luz’s experience includes providing advice on structuring businesses and corporate matters, mergers and acquisitions, consumer protection, unfair competition, free competition and intellectual property.
María Luz is a member of Fulbright Association, as a scholar. Also, she is a member of the Lima’s Bar Association and of Arequipa’s Bar Association, as well as the International Associations INTA and IBA.
